Civil Air Guard

The Civil Air Guard was prominent all over England, Flying Clubs were given contracts by the Air Ministry to train young civilians to fly in the event an emergency should arise they could be employed in the communications and aircraft ferrying roles. The Civil Air Guard trained the students in Gipsey Moth aircraft, the set-up is similar to that of the Territorial Army these days. It is here that Granddad began his RAF journey.
